Dedicated to the work of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger and all the other people, both actors and technicians who helped them make those wonderful films. A lot of the documents have been sent to me or have come from other web sites. The name of the web site is given where known. If I have unintentionally included an image or document that is copyrighted or that I shouldn't have done then please email me and I'll remove it. I make no money from this site, it's purely for the love of the films. [Any comments are by me (Steve Crook) and other members of the email list] |

[Well spotted Neal]- Harrow County School for Girls in Lowlands Road, Harrow
Reported by Dave Buckley:
I am in contact with a woman who went to the school around the time the film was made, and recently asked her if she remembered any films being made and she said yes - 'I know Where I'm Going'. I emailed her the link to the film and she replied....."Some girls were asked if they could attend on a Saturday morning to appear in the film, but I had a ballet lesson, so couldn't go. However, seeing the badge on the school blazer brings back memories also the rather wrinkly stockings (I hated the school uniform). I wish now that I had been able to go on the day and then I could probably have given more information. I see John Laurie of Dad's Army fame was in the film, the only one I had heard of at the time was Wendy Hillier."
The school seems to be called Harrow College now, the Harrow-on-the-Hill campus.
Now if only we can find a horse-drawn milk float we'll be able to re-create the scene :)
- Joan says goodbye to her father and travels by train from Manchester to Glasgow where she changes and gets another train to the north of Glasgow (all station scenes done in the studio)
The train rushing towards the tartan hills is a model but Hylton Holt has identified the real train that we see shortly afterwards as being pulled by Perth's then new LMS "Black Five" 4-6-0 No. 5497.
