Honeymoon may well be thought of as the last of the quartet of films, the first three being The Red Shoes, The Tales of Hoffmann and Oh... Rosalinda!! They all combine plot, dialogue, music in a way that only Michael Powell could conceive and execute. This film was innovative in a number of other ways too. It was originally released with a stereo soundtrack and with two other ground-breaking formats, Wonderama and Technirama. These were seen as state of the art in their day and allowed larger curved screens to be incorporated without the loss of focus, although they were never widely adopted owing to the cost of conversion equipment required for cinemas. The restoration of the film to its original full length in the English language has only been possible owing to the kindness and enthusiasm of John Herron and all the staff at Canal+ Image UK Ltd. Thankfully, all of the original material survives, including the Technirama and Wonderama negatives and prints (unprojectable though owing to the extinction of the original equipment).
