The IKWIG Phone Box
The phone box shown in the film is a real phone box and it really is just next to a waterfall. Although in reality the waterfall isn't as close to the phone box and isn't as noisy as the film makes out (ah, the magic of the movies)
When we went there in 2005 it was in quite a sorry state and soon after that we heard that British Telecom were threatening to have it removed. In these days of mobile phones there isn't as much of a need for phone boxes. But the mobile signals on Mull are quite bad, especially around Carsaig.
We managed to get the phone box listed by Historic Scotland as an essential to good communication in the area as well as being significant because of its use in the film.
When we went there in 2015 it was again in a sorry state of repair so we contacted British Telecom and they said they would fix it. They quite rightly state that they are reactive so it is up to consumers to alert them to problems.
