John Sweet is to visit Canterbury again
John Sweet starred in A Canterbury Tale (1944) as the G.I. Sgt Bob Johnson.
He'd never acted professionally before and that was the only time he did.
He was over here with the American Army before D-Day. Michael Powell saw him in an amateur production & asked him to be in the film.
John did the film & was wonderful in it and then went to Europe with the invading Army. Did his bit for democracy & freedom and then went back to the States to resume his job as a teacher.
Well now he's coming back to Canterbury !!
There is a charity screening of A Canterbury Tale (1944) at the ABC Canterbury on October 10th and John Sweet and Sheila Sim (Alison) will be the guests of honour.
The screening is the opening event in this year's Kent International Film Festival.
