Roger Livesey


Roger Livesey was born in 1906. He studied under Italia Conti and made his first appearance at St.James's Theatre in 1917 as the office boy in Loyalty. Thereafter he appeared in many plays including The Man In The Next Room, The Cuckoo In The Nest, Midsummer Night's Dream, Meeting At Night, Lady Precious Stream, Storm In A Teacup, The Taming Of The Shrew, Dear Brutus, Twelfth Night, Merry Wives Of Winsor and The Reluctant Debutante. During the thirties he toured the West Indies and South Africa and in 1956-58 Australia playing Jimmy Broadbent in The Reluctant Debutante . He has played in numerous films, notably in Colonel Blimp, I Know Where I'm Going, A Matter Of Life And Death, The Entertainer, etc. Mr Livesey's most recent appearance was at the Round House, London, in Hamlet where the production was also filmed and a New York season and tour of America followed. Roger Livesey is married to Ursula Jeans. They first met during the 1933 season at the Old Vic where they subsequently acted together for three seasons and tours abroad and for the last six years they have been co-starring in prestige productions throughout Britain. Recently they co-starred in the smash hit West End production of An Ideal Husband.


Ursula Jeans


Ursula Jeans was born in India but was educated in London, studying for the stage at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She made her first stage appearance in 1925 at Wyndham's Theatre in London in Cobra. Thereafter she appeared in many plays including Samson and Delilah, Chance Acquaintance, High Treason, Apron Strings and Grand Hotel. In 1933 she made her first appearance on the New York stage in Late One Evening and on her return to England joined the Old Vic and Sadlers Wells Company playing in Twelfth Night, The Cherry Orchard, Henry VIII, The Importance of Being Earnest and many many others. During the war Miss Jeans toured for E.N.S.A. in Dear Brutus, Watch On The Rhine, etc. After the war she continued on the British stage and in 1956-58 toured Australia and New Zealand with her husband in The Reluctant Debutante. Ursula Jeans commenced her film career in A Gypsy Cavalier and has since appeared in numerous films and in many T.V. plays for the B.B.C.
