There just isn't as much going on here as in Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's other films, but it's a breezy, entertaining piece with P & P's customary stylistic cheekiness. David Niven is the swashbuckling hero; disguised as a feckless dandy, he spirits deserving aristocrats out of revolutionary France. With Margaret Leighton, Cyril Cusack, and Jack Hawkins; the highly charged Technicolor cinematography is the work of Christopher Challis (1950).
