Red Ensign (1935)
aka Strike!

Banks is a shipbuilder who wants to build a new cargo ship but is unable to convince his board of directors to back the project. Undaunted, he begins construction with his own money, although it means having to deal with a competitor who would like to force him out of business. When his own money runs out, he forges the signature of the chairman of the board on a check and goes to jail, but his ship is launched. Superficially not terribly interesting, but patient audiences will be rewarded with an intriguing character drama. Though one of Powell's early efforts, this film already shows his talent.
