Thief of Bagdad - Costume Jewelry
The Thief of Bagdad (1940) was one of the first films to be commercially exploited in quite a big way. Amongst the various items available to purchase were pieces of costume jewelry as shown below.
Most seem to have a little plate on the back with two numbers, one on either side of the words:
## THIEF OF BAGDAD
KORDA ©## The numbers could be something like a model and and item number. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know.
I have seen suggestions that these were made for the cast & crew, but there seem to be too many for just that.
It appears that these items of costume jewelry were made by Rice-Weiner & co of New England under license to United Artists, the US distributors.
Some have the Sales blurb attached from when the item was sold on eBay. These are usually non-specialist sellers so any information they contain should be coinsidered unverified.
