The Masters
The Powell & Pressburger Pages

Dedicated to the work of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger and all the other people, both actors and technicians who helped them make those wonderful films.

A lot of the documents have been sent to me or have come from other web sites. The name of the web site is given where known. If I have unintentionally included an image or document that is copyrighted or that I shouldn't have done then please email me and I'll remove it.

I make no money from this site, it's purely for the love of the films.

Locations used in The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943)

Many thanks to Alan F for these and for his great detective work in finding them.

The Bull, Gerrards Cross, SL9 7PA
(Where Spud's troops stop off on their way into London)

The Ford, as seen in the film

1955 postcard showing the ford in what they call Bury Road (it's really Bury Lane)
Bury Lane in 2007
Still looking for this one, where the despatch riders split up
Denham Way in the vicinity of Tilehouse Lane appears twice in the first few seconds of the film, firstly with the riders heading towards Denham and then with them heading back towards Rickmansworth.
Note the two houses, which appear in both shots.

Can't exactly prove this one but it looks like the hill in North Orbital Road, near the gates of Denham Studios.

As far as I can tell the roundabout is on the A4140 just north of Wembley. The riders enter from Salmon Street, pass the end of The Paddocks, pass the space where Pilgrims Way would later be added (1960s?) and exit via Fryent Way. This is the only roundabout I can find that is the right size and shape with the roads in the right places.
